calibre-zen is free software under the GPL v3, given to you at no charge and with no warranty. These terms say what that means in practice.
calibre-zen is free, in both senses: it costs nothing and you may use, study, change and share it. It is also unwarranted — it is maintained by one person in their spare time, and you run it at your own risk. Keep backups of your library.
calibre-zen is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3, the same licence as calibre. That licence, not this page, governs what you may do with the software. Nothing here reduces the freedoms the GPL grants you, and if anything on this page appears to conflict with the GPL, the GPL wins.
The complete source code, including every change this fork makes, is at github.com/purplecandy/calibre-zen.
There is no fee, no licence key and no account, so there is nothing to subscribe to, expire or cancel.
This restates sections 15 and 16 of the GPL, which apply in full: the software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the software is with you. To the extent permitted by law, no contributor is liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the software, including loss of data.
Read that as practical advice as well as a legal notice. calibre-zen rebuilds large parts of calibre's interface, so it can have bugs calibre does not. Back up your library before doing anything destructive to it.
calibre-zen is a tool for organising files you already have. You are responsible for having the right to hold and convert them, and for complying with the copyright law that applies where you are. calibre-zen ships nothing that removes or circumvents DRM.
Metadata sources, bookstores, news publishers and third-party plugins have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not a party to your use of them. If you obtained calibre-zen from an app store or package repository, that distributor's terms also cover the download itself.
calibre-zen is an independent fork. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by calibre or Kovid Goyal, and calibre's name is used here only to say accurately what calibre-zen is derived from. Please do not report calibre-zen bugs to calibre.
Support is best-effort and public: open an issue on the issue tracker. There is no service level, response time or guarantee that any particular bug is fixed or any feature built.
These terms may change; the date at the top of the page is the version in force, and continuing to use calibre-zen after a change means accepting it. To the extent these terms are enforceable at all alongside the GPL, they are governed by the laws of India.
