Getting started
Install Ampliflare Audio, add ffmpeg, and clean up your first recording. Every tool runs on your computer, so nothing is ever uploaded.
Ampliflare Audio has five tools: Remove noise, Enhance, Cut, Split and Convert. It uses ffmpeg to read and write audio, so you install that once too.
Install
Section titled “Install”Pick the file for your computer. The dialog lists every file in the newest release, with yours first.
Open the disk image and drag the app to Applications. Then install ffmpeg
with Homebrew: brew install ffmpeg.
Run the setup file. Then install ffmpeg, for example with
winget install ffmpeg.
Run the install command below, or pick the AppImage, .deb
or .rpm for your system. Install ffmpeg from your package manager, like
sudo apt install ffmpeg.
Linux install
Section titled “Linux install”Run this in a terminal. It needs no sudo.
curl -fsSL https://static.purplecandy.dev/ampliflare-audio/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bashThe script downloads the AppImage for your computer, checks it against the
release’s checksums, and adds Ampliflare Audio to your app menu. It puts the
app in ~/.local/share/ampliflare-audio and an ampliflare-audio command in
~/.local/bin. It also tells you if ffmpeg or libfuse2 is missing.
Run the same command again to reinstall. To remove the app, add --uninstall:
curl -fsSL https://static.purplecandy.dev/ampliflare-audio/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash -s -- --uninstallYour settings are kept. To install for every user in /opt instead, download
the script and run sudo bash install.sh --system.
Manual Linux install
Section titled “Manual Linux install”Download a file for your computer and SHA256SUMS from the Download dialog
into one folder, then check it. The line for your file should say OK.
sha256sum -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMSThen install the one you picked, with its name in place of FILE:
| File | Command |
|---|---|
| AppImage | chmod +x FILE.AppImage && ./FILE.AppImage |
| .deb | sudo apt install ./FILE.deb |
| .rpm | sudo dnf install ./FILE.rpm |
An AppImage needs libfuse2: sudo apt install libfuse2 on Debian and Ubuntu,
or libfuse2t64 on Ubuntu 24.04. Without it, start the app with
APPIMAGE_EXTRACT_AND_RUN=1 ./FILE.AppImage.
Your first file
Section titled “Your first file”- Drop audio files on the window, or click Open Files….
- Pick a tool in the sidebar. Remove noise is first.
- At the bottom, choose where results go. Next to Original Files is the default, or pick a folder.
- Click Run at the top right.
New files get the old name plus what was done, like talk-clean.wav. The
Name field at the bottom changes that. Your originals are never changed.
